I was able to get my hands on a jar of El Mero from Dr. Greenthumb recently, a brand that in Illinois is grown and put out under Redemption Botanicals. I got this jar as an eighth and it was my first time with an 8th of flower from this brand. “El Mero” is Spanish slang that roughly translates to “The Boss” or “the one in charge” basically like calling someone the Top Dog. El Mero is an indica dominant and a collab with Barney’s Farm that crosses 2 classic strains together, OG Kush & GMO, which is going to be a nice change of pace from my current stash of mainly tangy and pine strains.
Upon opening the jar, I immediately smelled a gassy and funky aroma that was on point for what I’d expect a Kush and GMO cross to smell like. The nose was gas dominated with earthy funk, while a subtle citrus sweetness on the backend. That aroma carried over into the flavor, with a decently heavy gas and funk before some citrusy tastes showed up on the exhale.
The buds themselves were dense but still had a nice fluffy structure that left my fingers sticky. It had a great mix of dark and light greens with bright orange hairs throughout. Bits of purple hues came through as well and once I cracked the nugs open, those purple hues really started to show up more and give the flower some more color.
The effects matched what I was hoping for from an OG Kush and GMO cross. The high started out with a calming and stress relieving buzz without leaving me in a mental fog or sending me off to bed early. The body relaxation settled in after a couple minutes, relieving a lot of tension in my shoulders and legs after a long day and active day of work and had me ready to kick back and play some video games for the evening. It was a perfect after work smoke for a night in, or a way to relax after a stressful day without immediately going to bed.

Overall, El Mero is a solid addition to Dr. Greenthumb’s lineup. Redemption Botanicals did a great job putting their top notch quality and care into this batch with some flower that’s flavorful and potent. If you’re a fan of classic gas, GMO funk, or one of those stoners that doesn’t like all the fruity strains these days, this one is definitely worth checking out.
